A camera glides over the vast expanse of Antarctica, with the odd scuttling sounds and distorted breathing suggesting less a human presence than an alien or inorganic one. This presence scans the landscape with mechanical precision, swooping up and down or jerking from side to side as it takes in white surfaces, bare rock, icebergs in black water, seals and penguins, a solitary human figure. But even this landscape is not purely natural, for palm trees and dinosaurs lurk here too. FREM: a nature documentary from the future, a farewell to a bionic world, a thrillingly singular experience.
