There are the images, the 8 Mini-DV tapes shot by N. of the sea on the coast of Beirut, of sand, rocks, boats, buildings, people, light, water; static, in motion, varying degrees of grain. There’s the text too, about N.’s reflections on the process of filming, the strange synthesis of camera and that which is placed before it, the latter transformed by the former into texture, abstraction, apparition. It’s about T. as well, her attempts to capture the sound of bodies of water, sonic environments woven around the images. But there are more letters, more texts, more feelings; never one sea, always many. (JL)
