Rough terrain, definitely hostile. A family history. And many secrets. Through a mise-en-scène combining words and closeness, faces and textures, we sneak closer to everything that goes into a memory, so often made up of faces and homes. In a whispering tone, we are told a story of women and a way of life on the verge of disappearing, a strange mixture of intimate cinema and anthropology, with a language that is nothing short of fascinating. Macu Machín (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) has an extensive career as a short filmmaker. In his evolution as a filmmaker, he has moved from observational cinema (Geometría de invierno, 2006) to found footage (Quemar las naves, 2018), always with a concern for trapping the real and the transcendent at the same time (El mar inmóvil, 2017). With the production of El Viaje Films, he now faces La hojarasca, his first feature film focused on the unique universe of his own family.
